1st December 2016 – King King @ Gaswerk Eventbar Seewen (CH) – Blues’n’More. The UK band King King has been on the rise since their live debut at Monaghan Blues Festival six years ago playing to sold out houses and garnering a myriad of awards. In 2015 they were inducted into the British Blues Awards Hall Of Fame for winning Best Band Award three times in a row.
Four months ago frontman Alan Nimmo had to undergo surgery to remove polyps from his vocal chords and a two months’ break from touring was inevitable to rehabilitate his voice. King King hit the road again in October but after a few shows Alan realized he would risk his health and career if he continued and they postponed the remainder of the tour and some November dates, too. Yesterday, with four UK shows under their belt and in fine fettle, they appeared in Central Switzerland at a newly designed venue which served great food and had the cleanest toilets I ever used in a music club! Once the musicians took to the stage, the party started going and everyone shook a leg or stomped their feet. King King are well known for their fantastic live performances and tight interplay. Alan Nimmo who is a proper Glaswegian was wearing his trademark kilt and he sure knows how to work a crowd. King King always want their fans to have fun and performed an eclectic set of modern blues rock, fierce uptempo songs, tender ballads and even a funky tune, with verve and a lot of feeling and passion. The highlights were Rush Hour, Long History Of Love, the Frankie Miller cover Jealousy and Stranger To Love where Alan turned the guitar volume down to zero in the middle of a blistering solo with his band mates and the audience going completely silent, too. A goosebump moment to listen to his unamplified guitar! Towards the close of the show Alan raved that Switzerland is an amazing place, in any direction you look it is beautiful, so he said. He thanked us for supporting live music and prior to leaving the stage for good wished us a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Right back at you, King King boys, a healthy one, most of all!
Alan Nimmo – vocals/guitar, Lindsay Coulson – bass, Wayne Proctor – drums, Bob Fridzema – piano/hammond organ
